Like the Perfect Man, a Great Winter Wedding Dress is Hard to Find

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Blake Kritzberg One of the first things you notice when shopping for your winter wedding is that some designers seem never to have heard of the North at all. (Some can be forgiven, since they live in more temperate climates.) To them, every dress is a summer dress, with variations based on the level of pomp and circumstance, not the weather. But if you happen to fall in love with a summery design despite the fact that average temps for your wedding day hover around 20 below, never fear — you still have options. One gorgeous look for the winter bride is a strapless gown topped by a faux fur-trimmed, hooded cloak. Throw back the hood, wear your hair in a sleek, tiara-topped chignon, then warm your hands with a luxuriant fur muff. Of course, this combo won’t quite work if your dress is made of a delicate chiffon, so to be sure to choose a gown that’s substantial and lined, made of satin, brocade or any other heavy fabric. Another popular choice is an asymmetrical faux fur wrap that rests on one shoulder, or the fur or marabou shrug that covers both. These styles are the perfect finish for a strapless gown with minimal beading. Capelets and stoles are more substantial faux-fur accessories with a dramatic, ice princess look, but they obscure more of your dress. She Was Nice in IceWintertime isn’t only the perfect season to bring out the “ice,” it’s also ideal for wearing strong colors under that snow-white cloak or shrug. A bold red gown will take your guests’ breath away, and would be especially nice for a Christmas wedding. Other brides may find that pale blue gowns suit their winter wonderland fantasy to a ‘t’, while this season’s trend toward bold black beading complements almost any wintertime affair. Winter is also a terrific time to go all-out with ball gown, princess or A-line silhouettes, cathedral-length veils and trains (make sure they’re detachable), sleek formal updos, and plenty of glittering jewelry. St. Pucchi’s Classics line has some wonderfully lacy, lined, trumpet-sleeved gowns that fit the bill perfectly. For the more daring bride, Monique Lhuillier offers a few offbeat gowns with a vintage touch that also suit the winter months, with their long sleeves and illusion lace bodices. If you go to a major couture clearinghouse and search for long-sleeved dresses, you might find season-appropriate gowns by Reem Acra, Paloma Couture and Carolina Herrera, for starters. But if your budget’s not up to the occasional $5,000 price tag, see if a local seamstress can’t copy the dress you desire for a much more palatable price. And while we’re talking tailors, remember those gorgeous winter wedding gowns you saw in the magazines — the ones with dramatic faux-fur trim sewn right into the sleeves and neckline? The ones that, alas, are impossible to find? See if your seamstress couldn’t pull that off herself. As for the shoes — well, you could wear something practical and change right before you enter the chapel. But winter brides have the perfect excuse to wear those beautiful lace-up wedding boots … an opportunity not to be missed. Blake Kritzberg is editor of FavorIdeas. Loan Repayment - Watch Those Extras

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Challiner]Michael Challiner Following a complaint made by Citizens Advice in 2005, claiming that aspects of the payment protection insurance (PPI) market were severely harming the interests of consumers, a report has been published by the Office of Fair Trading. Payment protection insurance is designed to safeguard borrowers ability to keep up loan payments and in theory it should make it easier to avoid getting into debt. If the borrower suffers an illness, an accident or loses their job, then PPI should step in and pay out for a specified period of time. It appears that borrowers are not being made aware of exclusions which may mean that they cant make a claim. In addition to these omissions, it appears that borrowers have no true idea of the real cost of cover and do not receive suitable information on the product. What is making matters worse is that providers are using an assortment of very different terms for the same products. Not all borrowers need the protection that these policies offer. Prior to taking out the loan they would not have considered the purchase of additional insurance and it is a fact that almost 90% of unsecured loan providers automatically calculate the cost of the PPI in the full figures for the loan. If you apply for a personal loan you are likely to find an amount for PPI added to the bottom of the calculations and may even assume that this is a pre-requisite, which could be taken as misleading. The Office of Fair Trading revealed that the variance in the prices were not relative to the cost. There were cases of virtually identical policies costing from 16 to around 40. Product providers seem to be doing very well out of selling the cover, with the cost of claims showing as a very small proportion of the annual income of 5 billion which they receive from premiums. In the PPI industry as a whole, the Office of Fair Trading was not happy with regards the provision of clear information on PPI prices, although this was not totally the case. It was commonly found that marketing literature was on display without any indication whatsoever of costs. When taking out a loan, 25% of borrowers had the mistaken impression that by taking out a payment protection plan, their application for credit would be viewed more favourably. Sales agents earn a considerable income from the sale of the product and commission of 60% of the product price is common. An amazing 7.5 million PPI policies are sold every year, despite the fact that they are unsuitable for a great many borrowers and many of them are incredibly expensive. A feed-back session on the Office of Fair Trading report is being held. Further action is then expected and this is very likely to result in them offering encouragement to companies to improve the product which they offer to their clients. Plans are then likely to be put in place for a code of conduct. These moves would be on a voluntary basis. In the event of companies not complying with whatever moves are proposed, it is possible that a full investigation and recommendations could be handed to either the Financial Services Authority or to the Competition Commission. In the meantime, remember that this is a purely voluntary form of insurance. Cover for accident, illness or loss of job can be found in other forms. Indeed it is likely that many borrowers who have paid for this expensive cover are already amply insured via other products. Check the facts carefully. Its your money. Why is Prevention So Important?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Bruce Spiegler One of the least known and least practiced aspects of medicine is prevention. If you look at a list of medical specialists that have evolved in our system of western medicine, you will not find a Doctor of Preventive Medicine. You will find a physician for every part of our body — but none for the whole. Most people do not realize that the essence of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), which finds much of its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, really has to do with prevention. It is a little known fact that traditional Chinese doctors were paid on a regular schedule to maintain the total health of their patients. In other words, they were paid to prevent them from getting sick. They would accomplish this by providing regular acupuncture, herbal treatments and other therapies, as well as nutritional counseling. If one of their patients suddenly became ill, the physician’s payment was immediately stopped and he was required to treat his patient for free until his health was brought back to normal. At that time, the patient resumed his regular payment schedule to his physician for the prevention of disease and the maintenance of his health. The patient was required to follow through with all of the care and treatment recommendations his physician would make. So in essence, the patient was accepting responsibility for his or her own well-being and practicing prevention. Even today with the tremendous growth of complementary and alternative medicine we often see that CAM practitioners are being used in the same way that we use our Western trained physicians. That is, if we have a problem we go to the doctor to be cared for. Although there is nothing wrong with seeking help when needed, if we look a little closer we see that there tends to be a certain lack of responsibility for our own health. This is largely due to the expectation that our health care practitioner will take care of our difficulties when they arise, so for the most part we have done little or nothing to take care of them ourselves. Let’s look at this from a different perspective for a moment. Think of a business that has a lot of customers who really depend on a product that the business produces. Now think of your body as being the only machine that produces this product, so everything depends on your working at peak efficiency. If you are properly maintained you will run for many years with only a few minor adjustments. If you are not properly maintained, you break down — and then what happens? You have a lot of unhappy customers and coworkers. In life, those unhappy people are your family and friends; and you’re pretty miserable yourself because, unlike a machine, you have feelings and emotions. So now that we all feel like a broken popcorn machine in a movie theater on opening night, what are we supposed to do about it? The first step is to accept responsibility for our own physical, mental and spiritual well-being. The time to start is now! As we become older, chronic musculoskeletal conditions and injuries become more common. According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, over 43 million Americans suffer from arthritis, and nearly 50% of people over the age of 65 have the disease. The CDC reports arthritis sufferers have “a substantially worse” health-related quality of life than those without arthritis. Musculoskeletal problems account for 40% of all work related injuries and diseases worldwide, with back injuries alone accounting for nearly half of that number. Preventing back injury… Chronic back pain is usually the result of many years of repeated stress due to an acute injury or a series of injuries. Your spine works 24/7, and if you are out of shape or stressed, you are more prone to back injury. Over time, repetitive stress can cause parts of the spine to degenerate. The condition of your spine at the time of an injury is an important factor in determining how fast you will recover, as well as the risk of the injury turning into a chronic back condition. Your spine has three natural curves: Cervical — inward curve at your neck Thoracic — outward curve of your middle back Lumbar — inward curve in your lower back Good posture is the result of the proper positioning of your spine, which is properly maintained by having good muscle tone. Recommendations for a healthy back: Learn how to lift, move objects, and reach for things correctly. When lifting, let your legs do most of the work and hold the item close to your body, regardless of its weight. If you smoke, QUIT. Nicotine decreases blood flow to your back, which makes you more prone to injury and increases healing time. Walk or swim everyday. (But don’t forget to check with your doctor first.) Change your position periodically during the day. Standing or sitting for too long may aggravate (or even cause) a back problem. Exercises to strengthen your back muscles and improve flexibility, as well as relaxation techniques to relieve stress, can be very helpful. Be sure to have a qualified professional design a program that is right for you. What Therion products can help a chronic back problem? If you are uncomfortable sitting for long periods, use a magnetic seat pad. A combination of high resiliency and viscoelastic foams relieve the pressure on your back. A deep-penetrating magnetic field is produced throughout the entire pad, relaxing muscles and improving blood circulation. There is also a lumbar cushion available for the pad. Elastic straps and clips to hold it securely in place as it comfortably and properly supports curvature of the spine. Wear a low back brace to help support the natural curve of your spine and relieve stress on your back. Therion’s low back support provides a deep-penetrating magnetic field to relieve discomfort. Patented Stomatex neoprene regulates the amount of body heat retained, while providing excellent support and stability for your lower back — without sacrificing comfort. If your back bothers you while sleeping, try the Advanced Biomagnetics System 2000 from TherionResearch.com. You’ll feel like you’re floating on air as the viscoelastic memory foam adjusts to your body, relieving pressure on your spine for proper alignment. The magnetic mattress pad soothes your body as its therapeutic magnetic field relaxes muscles and improves blood flow. Preventing other types of musculoskeletal injury As we all know there are countless ways that we can injure ourselves, so what we will try to address are some basic prevention recommendations to help keep you from injuring or re-injuring your muscles, bones and joints. To help prevent falls: Make sure that hallways and stairwells are well lit. Remove or repair anything that could make you trip (loose rugs, electrical cords, toys, etc.) Install handrails on inside and outside stairways. Install traction strips in bathtubs. Rub the bottoms of new shoes on a rough surface, such as concrete before using them to avoid slipping. If you live in a cold climate be sure to put salt or sand on the walkways. When you are away from home: Watch out for slippery surfaces, curbs and other obstructions while walking. Always wear seat belts while in the car. Never drive after drinking alcohol or while taking certain medications. Be alert for hazards in your workplace and follow all safety rules. Magnetic therapy has been shown to be very effective in relieving the symptoms of chronic musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Numerous scientific studies and articles are available to you in the Learning Center at www.therionresearch.com/learning_center.html. Orthopedic supports and braces have been shown to be very effective in the prevention of injury and for the relief of musculoskeletal symptoms due to an injury or chronic condition. A large-scale study conducted by UCLA on the use of back supports in the work place for prevention of injury, found there was a 34% drop in on-the-job injuries after the back-support policy was implemented. Are you proactive about your health? Whether you’re a weekend warrior, enjoy playing golf or other sports, or prefer to just relax at home, you owe it to yourself and your family to stay healthy. If you have a chronic condition or a weak area prone to injury, you have to be proactive in order to prevent further injury. By not taking preventative measures, you greatly increase your risk of injury. Be careful how you bend or perform a task; try not to twist or turn suddenly; and wear the appropriate support or wrap for added stability and relief of discomfort. Therion supports use proprietary Magnetic Thermal Regulation to provide you with numerous therapeutic benefits. They are the only supports to provide outstanding comfortable and wearability at any level of activity, in any climate, for as long as needed. While there is no way to prevent all injuries, if you follow the recommendations provided here, you can substantially reduce your risk of further injury — and most importantly, the days, weeks, or months that it would take to recover. by Bruce Spiegler, Reg. Do You Need Help To Find Plans For Your Modular Log Cabin Homes?

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Jarl Jacobsen Modular log homes are cabins that are manufactured in a remote facility and then delivered to their intended site of use. Typically, modular dwellings are building to local code, so dwellings built in a given manufacturing facility may have differing construction standards depending on the final destination of the modules. For example modular log cabins built for final assembly on the Southeast coast may have additional bracing built-in to meet local hurricane codes. Modular log cabin homes usually lack the shallowly sloping rooflines typical of mobile cabins as the roof can be transported separately, from the other components. However, most modular cabin homes come pre-roofed with hinges witch allow the roof to be folded up and have knee-walls swing into place to support the higher pitched roof. Modular log cabin homes are a dream of love come true. Most people who consider building a new home hardly ever think of what theyre going to build the cabin of. They know the number of bedrooms and bathrooms they want, and usually where they want them situated. Some even know the style theyre going to decorate these rooms long before building of the log cabin has even started. The exterior finish is usually decided only after the size, number of rooms and traffic patterns have been established. Building your modular log cabin homes can be the most rewarding thing you will ever create (unless you have children), but it can also be the most difficult (much like children) So, youd better have a pretty good idea of what youre doing before you do it or else it could be a total disaster. What type of materials shell I cosies for my modular log cabins homes? White pine is a good choice; its easy to work with, offers excellent insulation properties and cost efficient. Western red cedar is considered by most to be the premier wood species to use because it lasts longer when properly maintained, has excellent insulating properties, and is naturally decay and insect resistant. It is, however, more costly initially. These modular log cabin homes have the charming look of a rustic log cabin without the traditional hassles of log cabin homes and main trance. The author J. L. Older Women’s Bridal Dresses

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Max Bellamy Older women’s bridal dresses are specially designed for women marrying later in life. It is important to buy a gown that is fashionable and just right for the bride. Older women also have the option to choose formal, semiformal or designer wedding dresses. In general, they prefer a special occasion dress, social evening dress, or formal evening dress to wear for their weddings. Older women?s bridal dresses can be selected from the “Mother of the Bride” dress collections. These include long sleeve, single piece dresses and other formal attires. Two-piece mother of the bride gowns are an ideal option for older brides. Silk and satin are popular fabrics used to make older women’s bridal dresses. However, there are also mix fabrics that look equally good and are cheaper. Before purchasing, it is good to discuss the fabric with your dressmaker. Choosing an appropriate color is one of the most difficult tasks. For example, white or wedding white includes shades such as ivory, eggshell, diamond white, ecru, and candlelight. Even burgundy, blue and mauve colored fabrics may be used for making older women’s bridal dresses. Most older women wear semiformal dresses for their wedding. Formal ball gowns may even be worn for this occasion. Formal ball gowns are suitable for any age. These dresses have an additional advantage that they do not look like older women’s attire. The best option for older brides is to use clothing that is tailor-made and appropriate for their figure and complexion. Trousers are favored by some; skirts with bolero jackets are also quite popular with older women. Most department stores stock bridal wear suitable for older women. Older women’s bridal dresses can easily be purchased through online shops also. How to Spot and Avoid Predatory Lending

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kenneth_DeLashmutt]Kenneth DeLashmutt Predatory lenders promise loans that are “too good to be true” and pressure borrowers to take them on the spot. Here’s a few things you or your family and friends should know about spotting and avoid predatory loans: How to Spot a Predatory Loan *Balloon payments. *High interest rates. *Monthly payments you can’t afford. *Penalties for early pay-off of the loan. *Unauthorized refinancing of your loan. Abusive Practices: 7 Signs of Predatory Lending 1. Single Premium Credit Insurance Credit insurance premiums should not be financed into the loan up-front in a lump-sum payment. One type of credit insurance, credit life, is paid by the borrower to repay the lender should the borrower die. The product can be useful when paid for on a monthly basis. When it is paid for up-front, however, it does nothing more than strip equity from homeowners. 2. High Fees The borrower should not be charged fees greater than 3% of the loan amount (4% for FHA or VA loans). Points and fees (as defined by HOEPA) that exceed this amount (not including third party fees like appraisals or attorney fees) take more equity from borrowers than the cost or risk of subprime lending can justify. 3. Prepayment Penalties Subprime loans should not include prepayment penalties, for the following reasons: Prepayment Penalties Haunt Many Refinancers Prepayment penalties trap borrowers in high-rate loans, which too often leads to foreclosure. The subprime sector should provide borrowers a bridge to conventional financing as soon as the borrower is ready to make the transition, though prepayment penalties are designed to prevent this from happening. Prepayment penalties are hidden, deferred fees that strip significant equity from over half of subprime borrowers. Prepayment penalties of 5% are common. For a $150,000 loan, this fee is $7,500, more than the total net wealth built up over a lifetime for the median African American family. Only 2% of borrowers accept prepayment penalties in the competitive conventional market, while, according to Duff and Phelps, 80% in subprime do. 4. Yield-Spread Premiums Brokers originate over half of all mortgage loans, and a relatively small number of brokers are responsible for a large percentage of predatory loans. Lenders should identify — and avoid — these brokers and refuse to pay yield-spread premiums — fees lenders rebate to brokers in exchange for placing a borrower in a higher interest rate than the borrower qualifies for. 5. Steering Lenders should make sure that borrowers get the lowest-cost loan they qualify for. As Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have shown, subprime lenders charge prime borrowers who meet conventional underwriting standards higher rates than necessary. HUD found that steering has a racial impact since borrowers in African-American neighborhoods are five times more likely to get a loan from a subprime lender — and therefore pay extra — than borrowers in white neighborhoods. 6. Mandatory Arbitration Increasingly, lenders are placing pre-dispute, mandatory binding arbitration clauses in their loan contracts. These clauses insulate unfair and deceptive practices from effective review and relegate consumers to a forum where they cannot obtain injunctive relief against wrongful practices, proceed on behalf of a class, or obtain punitive damages. Arbitration can also involve costly fees, be required to take place at a distant site, or designate a pro-lender arbitrator. 7. Flipping Flipping of borrowers occurs through repeated fee-loaded refinancings. One of the worst practices is for lenders to refinance subprime loans over and over, taking out home equity wealth in the form of high fees each time, without providing the borrower with a net tangible benefit. How to Avoid a Predatory Loan *Always shop around. *Ask questions. *If you don’t understand the loan terms, talk to someone you trust to look at the documents for you. *Don’t trust ads promising “No Credit? No Problem!” *Ignore high-pressure sales tactics. *Don’t take the first loan you are offered. *Remember that a low monthly payment isn’t always a ‘deal.’ Look at the TOTAL cost of the loan. *Be wary of promises to refinance the loan to a better rate in the future. *Never sign a blank document or anything the lender promised to fill in later. Men’s Wedding Bands FAQs

Monday, April 14th, 2008

By Kevin Stith How long have men’s wedding bands been common and in fashion? The use of men’s wedding bands dates back to the end of the Second World War. There is no evidence of men having worn wedding bands before this period. What are the materials used to make men’s wedding bands? Gold is the traditionally preferred material for men’s wedding bands. However, various metals like silver, stainless steel, carbon fiber, platinum and titanium are also used. Are gemstones used in men’s wedding bands? Though most men prefer no-fuss plain bands, there are some who choose bands with inlaid gemstones. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds- the choice of gemstone depends on personal preference. Should the bride and groom’s wedding bands be alike in style? This is a totally personal choice. However, it has been seen that many couples purchase similar bands, choosing the style that suits both. Who chooses and buys the groom’s wedding band? There are no traditional practices about buying the groom’s wedding band. In general, both the bride and the groom do the selection and purchase together. What is the best choice of metal for a man’s wedding band that is to be used daily? Traditional gold, white gold, platinum, and titanium are good metals for daily wear as they do not damage easily. 9, 14 or 24 carat gold can be used for a man’s wedding band. Is there any particular design and size that makes for a comfortable fit in wedding bands? Individual finger measurements are best for getting a perfect fit. Kids in the Way of Your Relationship

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Nick Young This article has evolved over a bit of a process. It started out as a blog to promote some lady’s trendy gear on my website then focused on the need to spice up one’s love life to enhance relationship. By using trendy gear like lingerie etc. Then we seemed to get into the area of how the kids were always in the way of a planned evening together or that traditional early night. The kids won’t go to bed or they won’t go to sleep. Bet that sounds familiar. Most have agreed that to have a good relationship means a bit of work. Work to a lot of people is a dirty word and they will shy away from it. But if we don’t want to be part of the ever increasing statistics of relationship breakdown where our kids will be the big losers, then work must be done. But that work can be fun work! One area that can be fun is revving up the love life department to another level. And one way this can be done is to avail oneself of some of the large range of sexy gear available now. Lingerie is readily available online to make it easier to buy and to escape the shyness of personal shopping especially for him. Nothing wrong with wanting to look good for your partner and by looking good you will naturally feel good too. If you can rev up that love life department you are well on the way to holding things together. If you can’t wait to get together because it is super exciting then you are growing some strong bonds. Bonds that will last and that is what we want for the kids. And speaking of the kids, they can be the main reason that we don’t get together. Why won’t they go to bed for you. Well, that is a whole story on its own but worth telling next time. Benefits of Personal Loans

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Vipul_Jain]Vipul Jain Personal loans offer the most convenient way to raise capital when there is an urgent need for it. Personal loans are very easy to obtain. When you apply for a personal loan, you do not have to cite any reason to do so. Personal Loans can be obtained for a number of purposes. Personal Debt Consolidation Loan:In todays world, lenders grant loans for almost every purpose. If you want to buy a new house, you will get a home loan. If you want to buy a car, you will get a car loan. Then there is that plastic money which throws you in a chasm of debt. Whenever you go shopping, you just cannot stop yourself from using credit cards. Having multiple credit cards increases your credit limit. There are many banks and other financial institutions that offer you loans whenever you need money. Most of these short term loans carry high rates of interest. A time comes when the amount of your monthly repayments increases your monthly income. To come out of this debt problem, you can apply for bankruptcy. However, you must keep bankruptcy as the last resort. A personal debt consolidation loan can help you avoid bankruptcy. The rate of interest on such a loan is lower than the rate on your current outstanding loans. This reduces the amount of your monthly repayments and gives you an opportunity to repay your loan. Personal Car Loan:It has become very easy to buy a car since there are many sources from where money can be raised for it. Many car dealers sell cars on hire purchase. When you buy a car on hire purchase, you will have to pay a small down payment in the beginning and subsequently you will be paying monthly installments over a period of time. The rate of interest on hire purchase is usually very high. Alternatively, you can avail a personal car loan to buy a car. Personal Holiday Loan:Holiday loans are usually unsecured loans that are repaid over a short period of time. Personal holiday loans provide a very convenient way of financing a vacation. Personal loans are readily available and therefore, they are perhaps the most suitable holiday loans. Apart from debt consolidation, buying a car and financing a holiday trip, personal loans can be taken out for many other purposes.
