Exercise - A Must For Weight Loss

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Darrell Stanton Weight loss is essential for people who are overweight, otherwise it would lead to various health hazards. Exercise is a must for people of all age groups in order to stay fit and healthy. Eating a fatless diet does not necessarily cut weight. One must maintain a balance between the intake of food and calories burnt per day. Regular exercise for a few minutes everyday gives better results in the long run, as compared to dieting. Aerobic Exercise for weight loss. Aerobic exercise is the best form of exercise for weight loss. This form of exercise drastically reduces weight without the need to compromise on your nutritional food. Aerobics stimulate the metabolic rate and make the body burn fat. Dieting can lead to only loss of muscle and fat, but aerobics cause burning of fat and building of muscle as well. Since muscle tissue burns more calories than fat tissue, the results from aerobics is long-lasting. The two types of Aerobic exercises that we see are high impact and low impact aerobics. Alternating between high impact and low impact exercises is advised as it helps in reducing the overuse of muscles and prevention of any kind of injury to them. Walking and aerobic dance are low impact aerobic exercises while some good aerobic activities are rowing, swimming and cycling. Beginners must start with 15 minutes of low impact aerobics three times a week. Gradually increase to 30 minutes and four times a week. Before exercising, a warm up and after the session a cool down are a must. About 20 -30 minutes of regular workout three times a week is very helpful for your heart. Heart is strengthened and it will be able to pump oxygen-rich blood to the various parts of your body. Life is prolonged and youthful appearance is maintained by regular exercise. Strength Training for weight loss. Strength training is an important form of exercise for weight loss. It is good for any age group. Weight lifting and resistance exercises performed twice a week helps in building muscle mass. A combination of aerobics and strength training is the best form of fitness regimen. These exercises help in strengthening the heart and lungs and also increase the muscle mass. Weight loss increases by 56% with weight training and aerobics combination. Building muscle mass with these exercises helps in fighting body ailments. Lifting weights tones and firms muscles. Using moderate weights dose not result in huge muscle mass, but it increases the body metabolism, firms the body and gives a slim look. Aerobic exercises can enhance your heart beat rate and breathing. This causes the heart to work harder and pump oxygenated blood to the various body parts more efficiently. Thus the danger of cholesterol blocks and blood clots in the arteries of the heart is reduced. Work Out Methods for weight loss. According to your interest and physical condition, you can choose from bicycling, aerobics, swimming, brisk walking and steps for weight loss. Alternating between them gives you better results. How To Bring Delight and Joy To The People You Love With Amazingly Free Greeting Cards

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Jed Baguio In todays modern world where everything comes with a price tag, there are some things in life that no amount of money can buy and one of which is the sheer joy and delight of seeing our loved ones happy and contented or the overwhelming fullness of loving and being cared for. These mood-lifting emotions can be shared to our loved ones in various means and manners. One of which is sending of greeting cards. It is our common belief that greeting cards are meant for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. Cards for Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving and Halloween signify changes in seasons from autumn to fall, winter and summer. However, the thought and message expressed in greetings cards are the things that really matters. Sending and receiving of greeting cards can root down to one point you are remembered. Aside from events and occasions, greeting cards are also categorized based on relationships. There are cards exclusively for families and relatives. Cards for friends and loved ones belong to another category since the messages also vary. The messages as well as the designs and illustrations can be personalized depending on the personal taste and preferences of the sender. They can have their own message to match their feelings or the mood or tone that they want for their reader. Ready-made messages are of course available. You simply have to choose the type that you want for the person. Advantages of E-cards over Paper Greeting Cards As compared with paper made cards, electronic greeting cards do not have to use our finite natural resources. The thousands of trees used in making paper greeting cards can be saved by using E-cards. In the same way, it can also give added protection against the harmful effects of pollution and toxic…CONTINUE Article Taken From http://PopularEcardGuides.useful-tips.com/ Written By: Jed Baguio Original Article Location:HowTo Brind Delight and Joy To The People You Love With Amazingly FreeGreeting Cards Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jed_Baguio http://EzineArticles.com/?How-To-Bring-Delight-and-Joy-To-The-People-You-Love-With-Amazingly-Free-Greeting-Cards&id=369747 cheap online pharmacy generic levitra vardenafil online discount pharmacy internet pharmacy

How to Attract Hummingbirds to Your Garden

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By William Berg There are numerous things a home owner can do to make his or her garden humming-bird friendly. Comparatively easy adjustments can soon be rewarded by the presence of feeding humming birds as well as nesting females and their young ones. Hummingbirds feed from nectar filled flowers and are important pollinators for many species. Planting a lot of suitable flower species in your garden is therefore a great way of attracting hummingbirds. Ideally include a lot of colourful blossoms, especially red ones since hummingbirds are known to be fascinated by the colour red. This is way a majority of the humming bird feeders are red. The recommended species flower will naturally depend on your geographical location, soil type, gardening skills etcetera. Hummingbirds are preyed upon by many types of predatory birds and tree climbing snakes, and they can also fall prey to cats and other mammals. The Hummingbirds will therefore appreciate densely grown shrubs and bushes where they can stay hidden from above. There should preferably be a lot of twigs strong enough to support the tiny hummingbird, but weak enough to carry snakes and cats. By including such environments in your garden design, you may very well turn your garden into hummingbird territory. The hummingbirds might not only visit your garden to drink from a feeder; chances are that they will spend a lot of their time resting there too, especially if the surrounding gardens contains few suitable hiding spots for hummingbirds. Offer the hummingbirds one or several feeders to drink from is naturally also an excellent way of making sure that you receive plenty of hummingbird visits. If the hummingbirds have trouble locating the feeder, you can hang the feeder next to some showy and colourful plants that can be easily seen from above. Using a red feeder is also a good idea, since the hummingbirds are known to investigate red objects. Once your hummingbirds have learned to associate hummingbird feeders with food, it is usually easy to make them understand that feeders of any colour contain food. Using red dye in the hummingbird food is not necessary. Red food dye has been suspected of promoting tumour development in hummingbirds. The jury is still out on the subject, but until red food dye have been proven safe for hummingbirds, it is a good idea to stay clear of it. If your feeder is not red, you can instead place some red stickers on it to make the hummingbirds notice it. You can often find hummingbird feeders for sale in garden depots, birding shops and department stores. If you fail to locate a vendor in your area, you can always order a hummingbird feeder from one of the many Internet shops that offer hummingbird feeders and food for sale online. When you choose hummingbird feeder, it is important to pick one that is easy to clean. Hummingbirds are sensitive to mould and can be really sick if the ingest it. Hummingbird food will also ferment quite rapidly, especially in high temperatures. The feeder should therefore be cleaned frequently. More information about humming birds and humming bird feeders. Without Faith

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Anthony Smith Without Faith. Faith is something that we cannot take for granted. There are those in this world that have no faith. Faith is what gets us up in the morning, and what puts us to sleep at night. It gives us the strength to work all day, and gives us the desire to give away, what we have worked for. For we, as the Bible tells us, work to give to others. Our faith lets us see stars on a cloudy night, and the sun shine in the midst of a thunderstorm. Faith lets us see flowers during the winter snow, and a cool breeze, on a hot summers day. For Faith is a substance. Faith has healed many, and the lack of faith has allowed many to die. Faith has established governments and the lack of faith, has caused many a kingdom to fall.Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Faith lets us see things, that others can not see, and do things, that others can not do. We can see angels in our most perilous times, and it brings us comfort in times of illness. Faith allows us to see God and communicate with Him. Faith brought us to salvation, when others called us strange. Faith is our hope and standard. Faith is what we have, that will please the Father, and the Son. Faith lets us see the truth among all the lies, and lets us see the light, in a darkened world. Faith frees us from bondage, and drives our prayers to accomplish the impossible. Faith will take two pennies, and feed a woman for her remaining years. If this faith is so strong, why then has it stopped for so many? Why cant we, all, take our most precious faith, and build upon it, and use it, to accomplish everything, that Christ told us that we could do? For we know that God is spirit, and it is impossible to please God without spirit and faith. For we see in Hebrews 11:6; But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. For he that cometh to God must believe that he is. This seems to be a simple requirement doesn’t it? But it is more complicated that just believing in God. For without believing in the Son, you cannot believe in The Father, for one is the other, and the other is the same. Have we lost our diligence, in seeking God, or have we begun to believe in the religions of false doctrine? If you believe in God, then you must believe His word. You say, I believe in the Old Testament but not, the New. Then take the old and believe. For by believing the Old, you there-by believe the prophets, of the coming of the Son. For Jesus fulfilled the prophecy’s of the Messiah, and it will take faith to believe in both, 1. The Old Testament Prophecy’s and 2. The New Testament fulfillment of them. I will show you a little about faith. Lets read, Mar 12:42-44; And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. Now do you believe that this poor woman, giving all she had, ever went hungry or naked, for the rest of her life? If you said, no, then you have exercised faith in the word of God from the Old Testament. Now if you said, Yes, then you have not learned anything about faith, and are in need to think again on Gods promises. Psa 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. I have never seen a Christian that was exercising true faith, go without food or clothing. Once we seek out the will of God, and His kingdom, all else will be given unto us, even the very desires of our heart. But what about seeking out the Kingdom of Heaven first? Many try to do that, after God answerers their prayers. They seek out the material, instead of the eternal. This is not faith but rather, the very opposite, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Many seek out a name for themselves, I give more than anyone else, I sing better than those people, I dress better than others, I am, I am, I am. All is vanity under the sun. Faith does not require, having things of the physical world. The Bible tells us, With food, and raiment, therewith be content. Many confuse faith with hope. Hope is a substance whereby, you cannot see the things that you ask for, and faith is believing without seeing. If you possess those things that you have asked for, then why do you then have hope for them? Faith makes you walk a mile with a friend, and if he asked for 2 miles, you go the extra mile. 1Pe 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: Faith is what brings us threw all the trials of this world. Do not put your faith in man, do not put your faith in uncertain riches. For man and wealth will both fail you. There is coming a time and now is, that all of mans wealth is becoming worthless by the day. Markets are failing, international commerce is being over run by cheep goods. Gold, silver and diamonds are becoming blood stained by war and famine. Do we have faith in God and His word? If so then, we must believe what the Son told us here, in Matthew 7:7-8; Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If you have 2 pennies, have faith in God, if you have abundance, have faith in God. Do not cry to man, cry to God. Go to God in Faith, in Trust and as a Son and not a beggar. Ars. This Lemon Automobile Brain is Damaged - Surgery is Not an Option

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Donald Ladew Each year, cars, trucks and RVs get more complicated. In this new electronic world computers manage most of the various vehicle operations, such as the power package, transmission, brake systems, emission control system, entertainment systems and safety related systems. Although computers make it more difficult for an individual to work on his or her car, some of them actually make the car easier to service. In twenty years we have gone from a completely mechanical automobile no electronics - to vehicles that have as many as forty or fifty computers. This sort of accelerated development has a price. There is no standardization in vehicle computers - software or hardware. None of it is common from manufacturer-to-manufacturer, or even model-to-model. This lack of standardization is bad for everyone. The mechanic is in trouble, because often he or she hasnt been trained to use the necessary diagnostic tools. The owner pays a heavy price because when a computer fails, finding the exact cause can be very difficult. Thus, the owner waits, often for weeks, even months for the dealership to figure out what is wrong. The dealership is caught between the demands of high warranty repair expense and needing to service the customer. And, finally, the manufacturer is under pressure to maintain the faade of manufacturing cars that do everything advertised. The manufacturer competes in a tough business environment, so they must offer new and sexy gadgets to the consumer. The customer asks for these things. If a manufacturer doesnt provide them, the competition will. The move toward more and more computerization in cars, trucks and RVs is driven by certain key elements: - The need for sophisticated engine controls to meet emissions and fuel-economy standards - Advanced troubleshooting diagnostics - Simplification of manufacture and design - Reduction of wiring (less wiring equals less weight, equals better gas mileage) - Manage sophisticated new safety features - Control comfort and convenience features - Compete in a tough business environment A recent survey of Lemon legal cases indicated that a remarkably high percentage had major defects that were directly or indirectly related to one or more of the on-board computers. given the sophistication of the modern automobile, this should not surprise anyone, least of all the manufacturers. When something goes wrong with an automobile, manufacturers want to talk about bad components, not the part of the vehicle that tells the components how to operate; the on-board computer. Typically the manufacturer talks about emission control valves failing, not the Electronic Control Unit (a microprocessor, computer), and its subordinate system the Emission Controls Computer (a microprocessor, computer), which tells the emission control valve when and how to work. We call this slicing and dicing the defect. It is a form of watering down the defect, a sort of deception whose purpose is to disguise what is really defective, one or more of the vehicle computers. If all it took was replacement of the defective computer, no big deal; better than replacing the entire vehicle. But, what if there is a software design fault? Or what if there is basic computer hardware design fault within the computer itself? Now, the manufacturer could be looking at possible recalls. This can be a devastating expense to the manufacturer. Hardware or software design problems with an on-board computer are not infrequent. Therefore, from the manufacturers viewpoint, it has to be something else; preferably something at which mechanics can throw parts regardless of whether the problem is corrected. Another bone in the throat of customers that prevents them getting excellent service is knowledge. That is correct, knowledge. For the average mechanic, the computer, microprocessor is a new and fearful thing. They know darn well if they fool around with anything that has a computer in it, they are going to screw up and get in big trouble. In an article on BMW Fuel Injection Fault Codes these are the codes the engine control computer generates indicating what is wrong with a particular system the master mechanic who wrote the article, described the task of retrieving and understanding the control codes as being very difficult: Its a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being most difficult, the master mechanic said. Still, the dealer has to get the work done. Inexperienced mechanics are put to work on problems they do not understand and that they really do not want to do. Who bears the brunt of their lack of training, aptitude and attitude? Right again, the long-suffering consumer. There is a nationwide shortage of trained mechanics, so severe that dealers and repair shops recruit from prisons in the Midwest. None of these conditions bode well for the consumer. Every Computer/Microprocessor in the modern automobile has multiple sensor inputs. Sensors measure things like engine temperature, RPM, vehicle speed. Sensors may be variable, which is to say they are collecting changing values, like vehicle speed, which the computer uses to make decisions; or they may be looking at the output of switches that are ON or OFF. The Engine Control Microprocessor may be connected to fifty or more of these computers and hundreds of sensors. Very few of these sensors, if defective, produce one isolatable fault. The failure of these sensors to operate properly at the proper time can create a multitude of hard to diagnose problems. Some of these problems present a serious safety hazard to the owner. Its not an easy thing when the brain of a vehicle, or a human is defective. Like a cancer it spreads out into other systems and affects them in unpredictable ways. It is callous and possibly worse for a dealership to remove and replace the emission control valve when your car begins to stall at stop signs and intersections, and then claim that everything is all right now. A week later the same thing occurs and it is some other component. It is analogous to a surgeon replacing your arm because the brain isnt sending it the right commands for proper operation. Its a tough situation, and manufacturers and dealerships do not improve it by denying such problems exist. One answer, of course, is more rigorous testing by the manufacturer. Mandatory programs to upgrade the skills of mechanics would also go a long way to improving the service, safety and vehicle ownership experience. Next time the dealership tells you the ABS Automatic Brake System- is supposed to pulse like a dying carp on the beach, step back, give them the, I see your hand in the cookie jar, look. Ask, How do you know its not the Big Brain? How do you know it isnt the Engine Control System Computer thats defective? Fertilizing Your Vegetable Garden

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

By Bill Prudehome Most home gardeners waste a great deal of money on garden fertilizers, primarily because they either apply a lot more product than is needed or they apply the wrong products. Fertilizer should be applied to garden soil based on: The soils natural fertility, Quantity of organic matter that is present in the soil, The type of fertilizer being used, The vegetable or fruit being grown. There is only one way to determine the current condition of the soil and that is to have the soil tested by a laboratory. When you have received the test results, you will be able to determine what areas of the soils structure need to be improved and hence, choose the correct formulation and type of fertilizer. Soil testing is available from: Most universities and colleges that offer agriculture programs, State Agriculture Departments, Private laboratories, Garden Centers, On-line garden facilities. Fertilizer Analysis: Fertilizers, by law in the US and Canada, must provide an analysis of the three main elements of their fertilizers formulation, commonly known as N-P-K, which we mistakenly refer to as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium when in fact the N stands for nitrogen, P for phosphate (P205), and the K is for potash (K2O). The numbers given, on the bag or box, are based on each elements amount by a percentage of weight. As an example, a 50-pound package of fertilizer labeled 10-10-10 would have 5 pound of N, 5 pound of P205 and 5 pound of K2O. The conversion is as follows: To convert: P205 to phosphorus multiply the weight by 0.43. K2O to potassium multiply the weight by 0.83. In our example of the 10-pound package of fertilizer, you would have the following elements: Nitrogen = 5 pounds. Phosphorus = 2.15 pounds. Potassium = 4.15 pounds. Fertilizers and pH: The pH of the soil is as critical as the elements available for plant nutrition as pH extremes can stop the nutrients from being available to the plants. Your soil analysis could show that the elements are in fact in the soil but with a pH around the 8.0 level elements such as phosphate, iron, and magnesium will not be absorbed by the plant roots. If the pH is 4.5 or lower, elements such as calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus will not be readily available for the plant to absorb. In some cases, having the wrong pH can increase the availability of certain elements to a level whereby they are toxic to the plant. Soil that contains aluminum at a low pH will have a toxicity problem. The pH can be raised by the addition of lime. Vegetables do best with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Elements: Believe it or not, a prosperous vegetable garden requires 16 elements that are essential for healthy plants. The air and water provide three of the elements - hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon. Plants also require three elements in large quantities; termed macronutrients, these are the elements that are contained within commercial fertilizers - nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. Three other elements that are essential and also considered to be macronutrients are calcium, magnesium, and sulfur. Most home gardeners do not have to concern themselves with these three elements as they are generally present in most soils and are added by the use of materials such as lime. The seven micronutrients are required in trace amounts and do not present a challenge to most home gardens as they are normally present within the soil and are enhanced with proper soil preparation techniques. It is important to use both synthetic and organic fertilizers. The trace elements that are needed for a healthy garden are present in the organic fertilizers. As synthetic fertilizers are chemically formulated, they are a relatively pure product without additional trace elements within them. The best organic fertilizers are manure, mulch, and compost. Summary: It is impossible to know what supplemental fertilization is necessary in your vegetable garden beds, to produce abundant and healthy plants, without soil analysis. It would be like going to the pharmacy and buying an assortment of pills, because you dont feel well, without having a doctor determine what is wrong with you first. Once you know what is lacking, you can purchase the correct fertilizer and use it in proper amounts. Winter Skin Care the Natural Way - 7 Simple Tips for Softer Healthier Winter Skin

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

By Sharon Owen Winter is a wonderful time of the year - holidays, warm fires, crisp air, and for many, fresh fallen snow. But the colder temperature and lower humidity affect the condition of your skin and hair. Lower humidity just goes along with colder temperatures even if you live in a more temperate area without snow. Here are some suggestions for winter skin care to protect your skin and hair: 1. Sun protection is very important in the winter months, just as it is year-round. Many people forget to use sunscreen, but sun reflects off snow and ice, and you can actually get double the sun exposure. 2. Sun Glasses are even more important in the winter around snow. Believe me, you don’t want to know the agony of being snow blind. Without sun glasses, you squint and that lead to wrinkles around your eyes. 3. Elbows, knees, and feet are completely covered in the winter months, and usually forgotten until spring. Clothing and boots can cause friction that creates a buildup of thick skin. A good scrubbing with a natural lofah sponge, followed by a rich cream will remove any problems here. 4. The skin on your hands is thinner than on other areas of your body. Hands needs extra protection and winter skin care. Make sure that after washing your hands you dry them and use a good hand cream. Wearing gloves outdoors will also protect them and keep your skin soft. 5. Public restrooms with their hot air dryers and paper towels may be more sanitary but they are definitely hard on your hands. Carry a small tube of your favorite hand lotion in your purse. 6. Protecting your lips with a good lip balm is good winter skin care. Avoid licking your lips as much as possible, since that will cause your lips to crack and chap. Drink more water to give your lips moisture. If you get a bad case of chapped or cracked lips, use a good herbal lip balm before bed, and you should be good to go in the morning. 7. Winter winds and low humidity are also hard on your hair, and using a rich, deep hair conditioner is important to restore moisture to your hair. White Man’s Religion? NOT Christianity!

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Michael Tummillo Christianity: White man’s religion? Martin Luther King referred to Sunday as being “the most segregated day in America.” Truer words were never spoken. A few years ago I was preaching and, Lord, help me, my opening words were, “Look around. What do you see? I see a church full of white people.” The Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and others…. they’d all been there, but we had holes in our net and hadn’t been able to keep ‘em. Jesus said, “The Kingdom of God is like a net, catching ALL kinds of fish…” (Matt 13:47) and that includes black ones, brown ones, red, yellow, Protestant and Catholic, young, old, male and female. As Americans, we often project an imperialistic attitude that the rest of the world detests. Regarding American CHRISTIANS, I’ve often heard and read of third world pastors telling how they only wish they had the money the Americans raised to take their “missionary journeys” so that they could better care for their own families and congregations… purchase bibles and study tools, attend seminary. Can we even imagine a group of half naked primitives coming into our churches to share the latest “revelation” God had given their tribe? Yet we spend a fortune crossing the pond for these “life changing” (whose life?) short-term missions experiences. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in missions, most especially those geared toward helping the sick and the children, but I’ve heard too many stories from missionaries who admitted they felt they made NO difference on their missions trip and from Nationals who could have used a nice healthy love offering instead. I once taught a Sunday school class to a room full of mostly Black African pastors, their small frames lost within their too-large, out-of -date suits and ties. Between them, their congregations ranged in the area of 40,000 people. These humble men were taking notes, asking questions, hanging on my every word. I don’t know about them but, for me, THAT was life-changing! God bless those who were wise enough to fly these African pastors to the USA so they could return home and teach those with whom they already had relationship (key word). Regarding this so-called “white man’s religion,” it’s true that some mistakenly believe Christianity is the religion of Whites in the same way others consider Islam to be the religion of the Blacks. Folks, Hosea 4:6 declares, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge….” Let us strive to KNOW the truth for the Scripture says, “they shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free,”(Jn 8:32). What you’re about to read, I believe, will be VERY liberating. THE TRUTH ABOUT OUR ANCESTORY Black Christianity did not start in America with the slaves that converted to their master’s religion. Genesis 10 shows us where all the races originated. The Black lineage is presented by family, languages, locations and nations. The Bible tells us, in Genesis, that everyone began with Adam and Eve. EVERYONE! Genesis 2:7 tells us Adam was made from the earth. Science has proven that we’re all made from the same materials as are found in the earth. The Hebrew word for Adam is Adahm, meaning “red” or “from red earth.” Yes, Adam was a person of color! After the flood, it was Noah and his kids that populated the earth (Acts 17:26; Gen 9:18,19). His sons were named Ham, Shem, and Japheth. These names mean Black, Dusky and Bright, or “fair,” respectively. Biblical historians agree that Ham is the ancestral father of the Black races - the Mongoloids, Egyptians, Ethiopians, the Canaanites, and the Indians. From Shem descended the Jews, Arabs and Persians. From Japheth came the Greeks, Caucasians, Russians, the Indo-Europeans. One Black son out of three? Well, we don’t know exactly HOW dark the pigment was of the other two but, is that possible? With God, ALL things are possible. Face it, if YOU were the Supreme Creative Being, wouldn’t YOU get creative when making people and animals? Look around. Look in the mirror… God’s been VERY creative. Medical research tells us it IS possible to have children that are very different in color, especially if one or both parents are dark-complexioned, but it’s impossible for a fair complexioned person to produce a dark-skinned child. So, for Noah to have fathered a “black” son, he or his wife had to have been dark-skinned, too. Logically speaking. Noah’s son, Ham, father of African and Black races, had four boys… Cush, Mizraim, Phut and Canaan, Genesis 10:6. Cush was father of the Ethiopians (Gen 2:13; 10:6) and the people living within Asia and Africa. Cush means “black” and Ethiopia means “man witha sunburned face.” Jeremiah13:23 says, “Can the Ethiopian change his skin…?” Mizraim fathered the Egyptians and his name means “children of the sun.” Eventually, they even started worshipping it, but that’s another story. Ham is derived from the Egyptian name “Kam,” the srongest word in the Egyptian language for “black.” The book of Psalms refers to Egypt as “the land of Ham” (Ps 78:51; 105:23, 26. 27; 106:21,22). Phut was father of the nation of Libya, (Ezekiel 27:10; 38:5; Jer 46:9 and Nahum 3:9). Libya means “black” also. Ham’s youngest son was Canaan, cursed by Noah in Genesis 9:20-26. Though we’ve all heard of Ethiopia, Egypt and Libya, strange how there’s no Canaan today. Note: Contrary to the teaching of SOME, it was NOT the entire black race that was cursed, only the Canaanites, because of Canaan’s sin. They were the original inhabitants of Israel (1 Chr 4:40) but exist no more. My, how they could have been blessed! Yes, there ARE long-term consequences for sin, affecting even our descendants. Noah’s sons migrated, spreading out all over the earth: Japheth’s people to modern Europe, Shem’s to the Middle East. Ham’s descendants went to southern Arabia, Africa, and India. Cush had a son named Nimrod (Gen 10:10) who built the tower of Babel as well as Erech, Accad and Calneh near the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the starting point of all civilization (Gen 10:10; 11:1). Cush’s descendants founded powerful Assyria, builders of Ninevah. The Bible gives no record of Phut’s geneology. Ham’s decendants included Menelik, offspring of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, to whom Ethiopians trace their historical roots. Joseph married an Egyptian woman (Gen 41:50-52) so his sons, Manasseh and Ephraim definitely had Hamitic (Black) blood. Jethro was Ethiopian and converted to Judaism because of Moses’ testimony (Ex 18:1-12). Moses was married to an Ethiopian woman, too, (Numbers 12:1). Was she black? Could have been! In Numbers 12, Miriam and Aaron began opposing Moses because of his Cushite (Ethiopian) wife, showing contempt for her ancestry. This angered the Lord and Miriam was stricken with leprosy (interestingly, this disease would not only make MIRIAM the outcast from the community, but her skin became REALLY white as a result of the disease. Poetic justice? After Moses pleaded on her behalf, God healed her and returned her to the camp). NOTE: It is my contention that Miriam’s REAL problem was not so much with Moses’ wife as it was with his prophetic gift and his special relationship with God. Perhaps she went for the obvious (Miriam’s fleshtone) rather than humbllng herself and admitting to Moses how she envied him. The Scripture does not indicate any prohibition against Jews marrying Cushites (Ethiopians) and they seemed to have had good relations with them (Amos 9:7; Ps 68:31; Zeph 3:10; Is 11:11). Jehudi was a secretary in the king’s court during Jeremiah’s time and was a descendeant of Cushi (Jer 36:14,21,23) as was the prophet Zephaniah. From Ham’s lineage came Joshua, and David’sgrandmother, Rahab, a Canaanite. Bath-sheba means”daughterof Sheba.” Sheba is listed in Ham’s family registry, Genesis 7. Bath-sheba was married to Uriah the Hittite, whose roots can be traced to Ham’s grandson, Heth (Gen 10:15). King Solomon’s complexion and hair are described as black but beautiful (Song of Solomon 5:10,11). Moving to the New Testament times, scholars believe the wise men who sought the baby Jesus (no biblical record of there being only three) were Ethiopians because the gold, frankincense, and myrrh were plentiful in southern Arabia and east Africa. The Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:26-39 undoubtedly brought Christianity to Ethiopia. Simon the Canaanite was considered to be a Black apostle (Matt 10:4). Simon of Cyrene, who helped Jesus carry His cross, was probably a descendant of Ham since Cyrene was in North Africa. Apollos (Acts 18:24) came from Ham, too. Certainly, nations that descended from Ham were there at Pentecost (Acts 2) with the establishment of the Church. Simeon, or Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene were leaders of the Antioch Church (Acts 13:1). The people of these regions were black. These were the men who ordained and commissioned the great apostle Paul. JESUS: Man of Many Colors Jesus was of mixed ancestory. You heard right… Jesus was mixed! Our Lord was a person of color! Though He was primarily Semetic, of the five ladies referred to in His geneology, Tama, Rahab, Ruth, Bath-sheba, and Mary, the first four descended from Ham, Noah’s Black son (Matt 1:1-16). Let’s face it, folks, man looks at the outside, but God looks at the heart (1 Sam 16:7). It doesn’t matter if you’re green with orange spots! He’s not looking for complexion or physical features. He’s not impressed by what we look like, talklike, or where we live. He doesn’t care how religious we are or how beautiful our church is. He doesn’t care how we dress, drive or what denomination we claim. You see, there was no room at the Inn when our Saviour was born and now He’s looking at our hearts, regardless of our epidermal hue, to see if there’s room there for Him to rule each individual’s life as Lord. No matter what color our epidermis may be, the question we must answer is: are we available? Need pastoral counseling and prayer? Write or IM me at team1min@aol.com Every blessing!
